Bocconi Test

The Bocconi Test is what stands between you and an Economics program at Bocconi University in Milan. It’s taken on a computer and helps the university figure out how you compare with other applicants. Expect questions on numbers, language, and problem-solving, basically testing how well you think when things are not super obvious.

At Koutsodontis Preparation Center, with experience since 1981, we provide successful preparation for this exam and support admissions services for submitting applications through the corresponding admissions service.

Structure of the Bocconi Test

The university’s entrance exam is divided into four thematic areas, with multiple-choice questions that appear in a randomized order. These areas include:

What it assessesQuestionsTimeScore
MathematicsThe ability to perform numerical operations quickly and accurately2875 minutes50
Reading comprehensionThe ability to process information from the text11
Numerical ReasoningThe ability to draw conclusions from charts, graphs, and tables6
Critical ThinkingThe ability to determine the validity of data5

Bocconi Test Questions

Mathematics: The questions in the Mathematics section cover the following topics:

  • Algebra
  • Functions
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Sets
  • Logarithms & Exponents
  • Numbers
  • Problem Solving
  • Statistics

Reading comprehension: The student is required to carefully read various texts and answer questions for each one, having understood the meaning and information provided. The questions concern information that either exists explicitly in the passage or must be inferred from the given data.

Numerical Reasoning: The questions do not require advanced knowledge of mathematics but rather solving the problem mainly through logic and the information provided in the statement. If arithmetic operations are needed, they will be relatively simple. The greatest difficulty lies in understanding graphs or tables and distinguishing between useful and unnecessary information for solving the problem.

Critical Thinking: The questions assess the candidate’s ability to understand and interpret the meaning of the text, to draw conclusions, or to infer, based on the given information. There are 2 types of questions:

  • Τrue / False
  • True / False / Cannot be determined from the text

And no, calculators are not invited to this exam. You’ll have to do it the old-school way

Scoring & Score

The test consists of a total of 50 questions, which are scored as follows:

  • Correct answer: 1 point
  • Unanswered question: 0 points
  • Incorrect answer: -0.2 points

Critical Thinking questions that offer only 3 answer choices have a negative score of -0.333.

Once they have their scores, students choose whether they want to submit an application or not. If they have taken the test more than once, they can choose which score to submit.

Bocconi Test Exams

The Bocconi Test is administered online from home, provided that all necessary prerequisites for the examination have been met. There is an external platform for online testing with a monitoring system that tracks and records the candidate during the examination.

The platform opens in July, and from then on, candidates can view the available dates. Usually, the platform closes the following March or April, with some days in between when it is not operational (e.g., August or Christmas holidays).

Candidates can take the test up to 3 times from July until the platform closes. However, they cannot take it twice on the same day or on two consecutive days.

Furthermore, candidates usually take the test in their final year of high school, right before they plan to start university. So yes, it shows up just when things are already busy.

Attention to deadlines is crucial because students must have their scores before applying to the university, and the platform closes before the application deadlines! Also, examination dates before deadlines are always popular, and there may not be available slots.

Lastly, you must book a slot at least 2 days before the desired examination date. Scores are available approximately 48 hours after the examination and are very detailed and helpful (in case of re-examination). The cost of the Bocconi Test is €60.

Bocconi Test vs SAT

The SAT is an aptitude exam for undergraduate programs in the United States and selected European Business Schools, such as Bocconi. Candidates can choose between the SAT and the university’s own entrance exam for their application, but they must take one. The material covered in both assessments is quite similar.

These exams are kind of a big deal for your application, so a strong score helps a lot. The SAT has set exam dates and works for many universities. The Bocconi test is easier to schedule, but it’s only accepted at Bocconi.

SAT preparation at Koutsodontis Prep Center is combined with practice for Bocconi’s entrance exam. Many students take both tests to increase university options and submit the stronger score to Bocconi.
