The GRE is an aptitude test required by over 2,000 postgraduate or doctoral programs worldwide. It applies to fields such as Engineering, Law, Psychology, as well as Business and is used by universities to assess the suitability of candidates. The GRE score highlights the candidate’s abilities in areas such as logic, analytical skills, and quantitative reasoning. Based on that, it determines how well-suited they are for the program of study.
A high score on the GRE test gives a competitive advantage to the candidate, even when the program considers the GRE as optional. It strengthens their application, especially if there are weak points such as a low undergraduate GPA, low grades in certain courses, or minimal work experience. Furthermore, performance on the GRE exam is considered indicative of the candidate’s performance in the program, and it may also lead to partial or full scholarships. In any case, the GRE significantly increases the chances of acceptance into a master’s or PhD program!
There is the GRE General Test, which is the most common, but there are also GRE Subject Tests. The latter assess the candidate’s knowledge in a specific field, such as Math, and are required depending on the program.
FAQ: What GRE score may be required?
In the test there is no Pass or Fail. Each university sets its own threshold as a prerequisite for admitting candidates to a graduate program. The higher the score achieved on the test, the higher the chances of acceptance!
It is worth noting that the GRE is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT). This means it is administered exclusively on a computer. As we answer questions correctly, the difficulty level of subsequent questions increases, leading to a higher score. Conversely, answering incorrectly leads to easier subsequent questions, and a correct answer to those questions slightly increases our score.

How to achieve a Top GRE Score
The change in the GRE exam doesn’t necessarily make it easier. While it is less exhausting, as the number of questions is reduced and the required time shortened, it remains demanding. Without proper preparation, it is likely that a candidate will end up retaking the test, getting rejected by universities, or missing application deadlines.
At Koutsodontis Test Prep & Admissions, we follow a specific teaching model that has proven to lead our students to achieve top scores promptly and cost-effectively without retakes!
