University Admissions & Requirements
Undergraduate programs in Sweden last three years and award a Kandidatexamen degree, while most Master’s programs take one year.
Swedish universities have two application rounds. The first round (fall intake) is intended for international students and covers all English-taught programs. It usually opens from October to January, offering higher chances of admission. The second round includes English-taught programs with remaining spots from the first round, meaning fewer available places and lower chances of acceptance.
Applications are submitted through Universityadmissions.se, where students can apply for up to four programs in one go. Swedish universities use a regular admissions system, meaning all applications are reviewed after the deadline. Each program has its own requirements and deadlines, so early preparation is highly recommended.
Basic requirements for English-taught undergraduate programs are:
- High school diploma
- English language certification (IELTS or TOEFL)

Basic requirements for English-taught postgraduate programs are:

Sweden’s currency is the Swedish Krona (SEK), and monthly living expenses range from 8,469 SEK to 10,587 SEK (€800–€1,100), depending on the city and lifestyle. Key expenses include housing, food, transportation, healthcare, and leisure activities.
Finding accommodation can be challenging. Many students live in student dorms or apartment complexes, though availability and costs vary by city. Renting a private apartment is also an option, but often requires registering on a waiting list.
EU students must obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before arriving, which grants them access to Sweden’s healthcare system on the same terms as locals.
