Undergraduate Studies in the USA

6 Steps to Undergraduate Studies in America

As a prospective student, there are 6 basic steps you need to take in order to study at a US university.

1. Collection, processing and evaluation of information

The first step is to gather information and do a thorough research in order to find the right university, as well as the study program that meets your needs. Students and graduates of universities, your professors and specialized liaison offices can assist in your research.

2. Start the process as early as possible.

Once you have decided which programs and which universities are of interest to you, it is very important to carefully check the admission requirements and deadlines. Get informed in time and start your preparation in case you need to take a SAT, an introductory test (eg TOEFL) or an interview. Do not hesitate to contact the Admission Office of each university and ask for more information.

3. Seek financial aid.

In case you need help to cover the cost of your studies, you can visit the websites of the universities and find out about the scholarships they offer. Also, it is worth looking at the other available funding options from institutions in Greece and abroad and apply if you meet the criteria (eg sports scholarships, private loans, federal student loans, FAFSA).

4. Apply for a visa.

After completing and submitting your applications, you will need to wait for a response from the universities. Once you have been admitted to a university of your choice, you will need to make an appointment at the US Embassy to apply for a visa (You will need to bring a passport, financial statement, scholarship awards, etc.)

5. Apply for housing

Once the university you want offers you a position and you accept it, you should apply directly for housing. Most universities cannot offer accommodation to all of their students, so you should apply as soon as possible.

6. Get ready for your departure.

Before starting your trip, check that you have gathered all the necessary documents and supporting documents that will be requested upon your arrival. Go to the US at least 2 weeks before the start of your studies to settle down and adjust.
